Can’t believe it’s only been 2 weeks since we’ve been home. My days feel packed from start to finish and of course everything that didn’t happen at the hospital decides to happen at home when we’re on our own. In nursing school I remembered the term autonomic dysreflexia associated with spinal cord injury. Then at shepherd it was taught with the warning signs before we left. So what happens on night 4 home at 11 pm? Julian starts screaming my name, I come running in and he is complaining of a severe headache and blood pressure through the roof. I went through all the things it could be and figured it out and as soon as taken Care of the headache went away. We made it through the night and was fine the next day until 11 pm again. Same thing. I figured it was the same cause and treated it and several times through the night. Finally made it to the doctor after 1 more night of it. You can read about it but until you see it it’s just a term. Now I fully know what to expect and it’s definitely severe. I also learned on the spot that there is no time to take him somewhere. It has to be figured out and soon. Of course we spent about 100 days in the hospital and never happened but on day 4 it does. He’s keeping me on my toes.
Champ is also no therapy dog like at shepherd but he’s trying and doing much better. He usually lies under his bed most of the time, and getting calmer when Julian is on the ground for stretching.
We continue to figure life out on our own. Julian is getting some visits from friends who are awesome to come sit with him. And I’ve gotten to spend some time with my friends as well for quick visits and dinner. Missing Shepherd friends, and asking for a special prayer for Kristen’s husband, Tim as he has started chemo this past week for his ongoing battle with cancer. They have a special place in our Heart and want the best for him. I’m ready for some Christmas miracles for all.
